From 24 may to 6 July 2006, the EGEE3 oceanographic campaign is held in the Gulf of Guinea. Scientists are looking for the key mechanisms of the African monsoon in this area.  During this cruise Argo floats were deployed . For more information (in French)  http://www.mercator-ocean.fr/html/actualites/news/actu_egee3_en.html

The Ovide campaign: This year, the Ovide campaign is on the german vessel M. S. Merian. The campaign started on 22th May 2006 from Lisbon and will arrive in the Feroe Islands on the 28th June. During this campaign measurements (physical, biogeochemical, currents) will be done to study the ocean circulation between the Iberic Peninsula and Greenland. This  area is a key limb of the global thermohaline circulation. 16 floats (http://www.mersea.eu.org/Insitu-Obs/1-3-Insitu-Floats.html)  and one glider will be deployed as a contribution to Mersea Integrated Project . XBT and CTD data will be transmitted in realtime to the Coriolis Center. To get daily news  from the campaign  ( in French )http://www.ifremer.fr/lpo/ovide/ovide06/index.htm

EGEE 1 cruise deploys Provor and Solo floats in the Gulf of Guinea. CTDs, XBT, TSG and ADCP measurements are performed along Pirata buoys network. [more].

A new subscription system has been set up by Coriolis. It allows a user to subscribe to a periodic delivery of data on an area for a defined period of time. The data will be extracted from Coriolis database and delivered to you by FTP according to the delivery schedule that you have chosen (weekly, monthly). You will be warned of the availability of the data by email. To subscribe click here

December 2004
The Argo array has now reached 50% of the target 3000 floats.

September  2004
First Argo delayed mode data are available at Gdacs. You can get them from  the FTP site ( file name starting with D To access) and from the Coriolis GDAC WWW (select "Delayed mode" in processing level   To access)

Surface data available through a new sub-setting interface : Argo surface data and at drift , thermosalinograph data from GOSUD project, Surface drifters trajectories are now available in netcdf format. [To Access]

March  2004

Weekly temperature and salinity analysis since beginning of February are now easily browsable and also available through a LAS server. Analysis for 2000 to 2003 will be made available that way as soon as available. [ To access]

New Argo data formats successfully  implemented at GDACs on the 11th of February [more]

January 2004

On February 11, the Argo GDACs (global data centre) will be transitioning the data files to new NetCDF file formats, version 2.01. The new formats address several shortcomings identified in the current file formats and were approved by the Argo Data Management Team at its annual meeting in November 2003. [more]

December 2003

Provor-FSI calibration : On the 8th of December 2003, the conductivity and salinity all Provor floats processed by Coriolis DAC & equipped with a FSI conductivity sensor have been calibrated. It represents 80 floats and 3892 vertical profiles. Many tests on PROVOR-FSI floats have shown that salinity measurements are modified by the presence of damping disk. Due to characteristics of this damping disk which disturbs the conductivity measurements, the salinity values of the PROVOR-FSI floats need to be corrected by applying a calibration. This step has been done at the Coriolis Data Center for some specific versions of PROVOR-FSI floats which are controlled by the Coriolis DAC.

This calibration was done with the following equation : C' = a*C + b,
Where C is the conductivity, a and b are :
slope a = 1.000773
offset b = -0.00495
With the new conductivity C', the new salinity S' is computed :
S' = f(P, T, C')
